GOOD FRIDAY
or DARK FRIDAY

Is the Friday before Easter. The day that we remember the cruel death of Jesus Christ. Jesus showed how much He loved His Father God, and us by willingly giving His life as a sacrificial Lamb.

    WATCH THE LAMB

    By Ray Boltz

Here is an awesome Good Friday song about a Father and his sons who went to town on the day of Jesus' death, and watched the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
In Mark 15:21 it is recorded that a man from Cyrene, named Simon, who was passing by on his way from the country, was forced to carry the cross of Jesus. So this song is written as He might have viewed the crucifixion of Jesus.

Walking on the road to Jerusalem.
The time had come to sacrifice again.
My two small sons they walked beside me on the road.
The reason that they came was to watch the lamb

Daddy, daddy, what will we see there
There's so much we don't understand
So I told them of Moses and Father Abraham
And then I said dear children watch the lamb.

When we reached the city I knew something must be wrong
There were no joyful worshippers no joyful worship songs.
I stood there with my children in the midst of angry men.
And then I heard the crowd cry out crucify Him.
I watched Him as He struggled I watched Him as He fell.
The cross came down upon His back, the crowd began to yell.
In that moment I felt such agony, in that moment I felt such loss.
Until a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed "You carry His cross.

At first I tried to resist him, then his hand reached his sword.
And so I knelt and took the cross from the Lord.
I placed it on my shoulder and started down the street.
The blood that He'd been shedding was running down my cheek.

They led us to Golgotha they drove nails deep in His feet and hands.
And yet upon the cross I heard Him pray, "Father, forgive them."

Oh never have I seen such love in any other eyes.
"Into thy hands I commit My spirit." He prayed and then He died.

I stood for what seemed like years I'd lost all sense of time.
Until I felt two tiny hands holding tight to mine.
My children stood there weeping I heard the oldest say.
"Father, please forgive us the lamb ran away.

Daddy, daddy what have we seen here.
There is so much we don't understand.
so I took them in my arms.
We turned and faced the cross,
and I said, "Dear children,
Watch the Lamb."

Why was Jesus called the Lamb of God?

In the old testament, the Jewish people would kill a lamb and offer it to God as part of their worship. The lamb was sacrificed to God so that God would forgive their sins.

In the Bible (John 1: 29), John the Baptist saw Jesus coming. John told the people,
"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

The Bible teaches us that Jesus was without sin. He was pure and Holy like none before or after Him. He was acceptable unto God to take on all the sins of the world. Not only was Jesus acceptable, but He was willing to die a very cruel death so that Christians, (those that believe and follow Jesus), can be acceptable to God as His children. It is through Jesus' blood as the sacrificial lamb of God that we are forgive.

The Cross

Today the cross is perhaps the world's most famous symbol. It can be seen on flags and badges, in churches, Christian schools, art galleries,T-shirts, earrings, necklaces and even of bumper stickers on tha back of cars. To many people today the cross is a symbol of hope and comfort. In the time that Jesus lived and died (AD30) the cross meant one of the cruellest forms of death ever devised by human beings. Each of the four gospels record the cruel death of Jesus.(Matthew 27:45-56; Mark 15:33-41; Luke 23:44-49; John 19:28-30) The old testament book of Isaiah 53: 5-12 prophesied the cruel Death of Jesus.

Isaiah 53: 5-7
He was pierced for our transgressions.
He was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace
was upon Him,
and by His wounds we are healed.
We al, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turn to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet He did not open His mouth;
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,
so He did not open His mouth,

Another Song by Ray Boltz tells about Jesus in Heaven that is the only one worthy to take our sins away.

There Stood A Lamb

He was standing in heaven
With tears in his eyes
Saying tell me this isn't so
For there was no one in heaven
And no one on earth
Worthy to open the scroll
Then one of the elders
Said John don't you cry
It was all part of the plan
Then in the center Of God's glorious throne
Hallelujah, there stood a Lamb

And they sang worthy
Worthy of honor and praise
They were casting down crowns
And praising His name
When He cried who is worthy
I can hear Jesus saying, " I am"
Oh, praise God, forever There stood a Lamb

Now open your Bible
Open your heart
It's clear we are in the last days
And He said I'll comequickly
So don't be surprised
When He comes back to take us away
feeble excuses won't get very far
When you find yourself there at His throne
you know Jesus and He is your Lord
Hallelujah, you won't be alone

And we'll sing worthy
Worthy of honor and praise
We'll be casting down crowns
Rising His name
When He says are you worthy
I can hear Jesus saying, "I am"
Oh, praise God, forever
There stood a Lamb

And we'll sing worthy
Worthy of honor and praise
As we cast down our crowns
We'll be praising His name
When He says are you worthy
I can hear Jesus saying, "I am"
Oh, praise God, forever
Praise God, forever
Praise God, forever
There stood a Lamb
